FAQ

General

How do I transfer data to you?

Our preferred data transfer method is via SFTP, for which we will send you detailed instructions in your contract. If you would like to use a different method, we can discuss alternatives.

Do you use generative AI to design or code pipelines?

No, we do not. Although your pipeline may include AI-based algorithms for inference/prediction, the design and coding of your pipeline will be done by a consultant with expertise in computational biology. Inquisigen Consulting Inc. is proud to offer high quality services that rely purely on scientific literature, reasoning, rigor, and expertise.

Will you teach me how to analyze and interpret results?

Although teaching is not included in our contracts, you may request it as an additional service after completion if you are interested in learning a specific part of the workflow.

Will you write software that I can use to analyze data for future projects?

Yes, we can set you up with a pipeline that you can run on your own computer, along with detailed instructions and a teaching session.

Security and privacy

What if my data includes sensitive information?

New genomic data collected for human studies must be stored and processed securely, typically within a hospital network. For projects involving such data, we can decide on appropriate arrangements together.

If you already have compute resources in the form of in-house or cloud compute servers and would like us to run processing/analysis there, we are happy to do so.

How long do you keep my data?

Your private data will be deleted 2 months after completion of a contract.

Contracts

How much does it cost?

The total cost of each contract is determined by the quantity of input data, the depth of analysis, the number of meetings, and the time required to fulfill the contract. The cost breakdown will be tabulated in your quote.

How long does it take?

We’ll give you an approximate timeline estimating when you can expect the results of each step of your project. Starting from the date we receive your data, a contract should be complete within 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on the amount of input data and depth of analysis requested.

What if I’m not sure whether I want certain services included in my contract?

In the beginning, it may be difficult to think many steps ahead. You are welcome to partition a project into multiple contracts, or start with a minimal set of services and then come back for subsequent analyses. In fact, we may partition large projects by default. This partitioning will allow you time to digest some results before committing to a specific direction.

May I change my contract after signing it?

We understand that new ideas or directions may come up as the contract is underway. However, it would not be fair to ask for a change after a service is already completed. If you really need to modify your contract, you may amend those parts which have not yet been completed, and the rest must be paid in full as outlined in the original contract.

Results

What happens if there is a problem with the quality of my data?

If the quality of your data turns out to be poor after our processing and quality control checks, it would not be appropriate to continue with the downstream steps. In this case, we will terminate the contract, and you will only be charged for the cost of prior meetings, processing, and quality control. If the quality of your data is in a “grey zone”, we can pause and discuss how to proceed.

How will I receive my results?

In addition to a PDF report with methods, results, and embedded figures, we will send you the original figure panels in the format of your choice (pdf/svg/eps/png/jpeg). Processed data used to produce the results will be sent in the form of spreadsheets, and the code used to generate your figures will also be made available to you via a private GitHub repository.

Will you help write a grant or manuscript that involves my results?

We strive to include all the necessary details about the methods and results (including interpretation) in the final report provided to you at the end of your contract, so it is unlikely that further involvement will be required. However, assistance with writing/reviewing a grant/manuscript may be requested at an additional cost after a contract is completed.

To whom does the intellectual property belong?

Results you obtain via our services are 100% yours. We do not disclose any information relating to your contract to third parties.
